1.1 Vision, Mission and Values
Why needed
“If you don’t know where you are going, you will end up somewhere else”. That’s
exactly the situation that some companies are in. They live from day-to-day,
year-to-year without any specific plan. Of course what they are lacking, is a
well-defined strategy. But why do many companies never manage to implement their
strategies? One of the most important reasons is the non-commitment of the staff
to the strategy.
Close examination of successful companies has revealed that they have managed
to overcome this challenge through a well-defined Vision, Mission and Values. A
Vision which aligns all staff to move in the same strategic direction. A Mission
so that everyone in the organisation is clear about what the company core
functions are. A set of Values which guide staff on the desired
people-behaviours that will enable the organisation to implement its strategy
and reach its Vision.
