Columbia Shipmanagement Ltd
Situation
Columbia Shipmanagement Ltd, one of the top shipmanagement companies in the world has its international headquarters in Cyprus. From there, it manages its international operations and its 8,000 staff spread all around the world. It is regarded as one of the most professional & successful shipmanagement companies in the world. The key to achieving this has been the very high quality of services offerered to the clients, which it continuously strives to improve in order to maintain a leadership position in its market.

To ensure its continued success, Columbia Shipmanagement invited the Peter Andreou Group to assist them in this effort. The challenge was to assist an already successful company, to become even more successful.

Solution
Following extensive research of the current situation, the Peter Andreou Group put forward a plan consisting of several phases and involving all staff at the Cyprus headquarters.

Guided by the personal vision of the company’s founder and the inspiration of the management team, the Peter Andreou Group facilitated sessions to create the company’s corporate Vision and set of Values. These were now to guide the company into an even more successful future.

To implement the Vision & Values, all staff (of all levels) participated in custom designed inspirational and motivational training sessions to better understand the Vision & Values and to be given the tools to enable them to “Live” them.

The following stage was to involve all staff in improving the company with the focus being on internal improvements in working practices, culture, productivity & efficiency. Columbia Shipmanagement prides itself on the quality of staff that it employs at all levels. To utilise this potential, all staff took part in project teams with the objective of coming up with improvements. The results are impressive. The process is currently underway.

Outcome
Through this process, Columbia Shipmanagement has achieved:

-Focus on the company’s strategic Vision as a guide to everyone’s actions
-Stronger “One Company, One Team” method of working
-Clear corporate values which guide all staff on the desired behaviours
-Improved communication and collaboration between departments
-Staff that actively take actions to improve the business, internally and externally
-Closer relationship between management and staff

Comment
Paul Kerr, the company’s Marketing Director commented," Although we are still at the early stages of the project, we are already seeing significant improvements in the way our staff are operating. More teamwork between people and departments, a more positive attitude in business behaviour and more concentration on client needs are all contributing to maintaining our leadership position in our sector of the international shipmanagement sector"
