GlaxoSmithkline (Middle East & Gulf regions)
Situation
Two of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies merged to form GlaxoSmithKline. From the outset, the new company set it sights on becoming the leader in the pharmaceutical sector.

The management team knew that one of the most important key success factors in achieving this goal, as well as the success of the merger, were the staff – their business attitudes and their alignment to the company’s strategic objectives.

The Peter Andreou Group was invited to assist GSK in transforming these objectives into every day business life.

Solution
Following discussions with management and an all-staff audit questionnaire, the main areas of improvement opportunities were identified. The Peter Andreou Group then put together a process that was custom designed to the needs of GlaxoSmithKline. The objective was to improve even further the effectiveness of the GlaxoSmithKline staff.

All staff attended a series of inspiring training sessions and workshops during which they learnt about the desired new culture and the ways in which to put it into practice. Furthermore, they undertook to carry out projects to implement the new improved culture. Staff rose to the challenge. A high level of interest, effort and innovative ideas resulted in improvements in many areas of the business.

The process was cascaded to all the GSK teams in the Middle East and Gulf countries.

Outcome
The process resulted in significant benefits for GlaxoSmithkline:

• A high degree of Awareness of the company’s corporate Values resulting in improved business behaviours
• Alignment to the company’s Vision
• A stronger Teamwork element amongst staff.
• The process, through the projects that staff undertook, resulted in several operational benefits such as cost-savings and improvements in working practices.
